BioMar's vision is to create a sustainable and efficient future within the aquaculture industry. The aquaculture industry delivers around 50% of all seafood consumer products.

It is crucial for BioMar's customers to systematically document sustainable farming practices as well as social responsibility and reduced climate footprint in the entire value chain. Both to achieve chain of custody certifications and to meet the consumer's and authority's demands. 

All actors in the aquaculture industry - suppliers, feed providers, processing companies, and distributors - systematically must prove their responsible contribution to the aquaculture industry. That place high demands on, e.g., the quality of the feed and the precision of the feed solutions that BioMar delivers. They have to be perfectly adjusted to each species, the growth journey, water conditions, and the size of the stocks etc.

Homogenous, updated quality data, data modeling, and forecasts in the whole supply chain are therefore completely crucial for BioMar to deliver the necessary reporting to their customers. Also for BioMar to win new contracts and future market shares.

Therefore, in 2021, BioMar implemented a 360-degree cloud transformation, including a new enterprise ERP system and a complete transition of the data and BI area. From an on-premise BI solution to a modern scalable cloud data platform. 

The group wanted one common way of reporting across all business areas and countries so that they could benchmark, forecast, and document performance, productivity, and quality.

At the same time, the solution should support the local compliance needs and regulatory requirements, optimising cash flow, liquidity, and stock - and not least, secure a 360-degree global business overview for the management. 

Last but not least, the roll-out of the new ERP system should be supported so that data and reporting would not suddenly stop.  

Co-creation secures 
high user adoption and independence

In close co-creation cooperation, BioMar's Data & AI department and Insparis data experts have built a new data and BI platform based on Microsoft Azure and Tableau with an Azure SQL database as the foundation.

With the new data and BI platform, BioMar's data analysts can independently create analysis directly in Tableau. In that way, they can support BioMar's management and business areas throughout the digitalization journey so that everyone is better prepared to make decisions based on accurate, timely, and transparent data and the whole supply chain gets connected. 

Exactly close co-creation has been one of the criteria for success in the project. It has resulted in a high and sustained commissioning rate and faster onboarding of BioMar's business on the BI platform. 

Furthermore, it has created close and flexible cooperation between BioMar's developers and Inspari's consultants. Closeness and trust which has meant extra speed and fewer stops. 

Cloud Toolbox 
speeds up the project

In Enterprise projects such as BioMar's, besides technical implementation, Inspari can also contribute with best practice experiences from other enterprise cloud and data projects, for example, within modern IT architecture, strategy, analysis of how to prioritise efforts, team organising, agile delivery models and cross-organisational cooperation. 

One of the things that speed up enterprise projects such as BioMar's is Insparis Cloud Toolbox which is a standardised and automated toolbox for developing cloud data platforms. 

The toolbox is condensed best practices from more than 10.000 hours of development and experience with development methods and components in Microsoft Azure.

As most enterprise organisations can be supertankers when it comes to turning and maturing in relation to big data transformation projects, it is a big advantage that you do not have to decide on everything but can lean against concrete experiences which uniformise, streamline, and accelerate the process of development - from source data to end user - and remove many manual processes and things that would have had to be built from scratch. 

This generally results in a shorter implementation time, fewer setbacks, and often a lower estimate of the transformation.
